M2 (EX K19) SUBMARINE MODEL
The "M-class" submarines, two of which were
built by Vickers at Barrow, were submarine monitors. M2 had a crew
of 65, 4 torpedo tubes and 2 guns. Launched in 1919, M2 was later
converted into a submarine aircraft carrier with a hangar and
catapult replacing the forward gun mounting. Vickers Shipbuilding &
Engineering (VSEL) was acquired by GEC in 1995 and became part of
the Marconi Electronic Systems group which demerged from GEC and
merged with British Aerospace in November 1999 to form BAE SYSTEMS
plc. |
